What is a 3MF File?

VAP BMW E36 complete 3MF file pack

A 3MF file is a 3D printing file format that can include model geometry, orientation and print preparation information.

VAP uses 3MF files because they are practical for FDM printing and can give customers a cleaner starting point than geometry alone.

Why VAP uses 3MF files

VAP products are designed around BMW E36 fitment, OEM+ integration and FDM printing. The 3MF format helps connect the part geometry with practical print preparation.

What a VAP 3MF product can include

  • Optimized model geometry
  • Recommended print orientation
  • Baseline print settings where applicable
  • Material notes
  • Fitment and installation notes
  • Multiple part variants or faces when included

Why VAP also includes STL

STL provides widely supported geometry for customers using different slicers or independent print settings. VAP includes it alongside the prepared 3MF version so customers can choose the workflow that best matches their printer setup.

Important digital download note

A VAP digital product includes both 3MF and STL files. No physical part is included unless the product page explicitly says otherwise.

FAQ

Does a VAP digital file include a physical part?

No. Products marked as digital files are downloads supplied in 3MF and STL formats unless the product page clearly states that a physical product is included.

Can I change the print settings?

Yes. The included setup should be treated as a baseline. Users may need to adjust settings for their printer, material and slicer.

Can I print VAP files in PLA?

PLA can be useful for test prints, but VAP generally recommends more heat-resistant materials for final automotive interior use.
