BMW E36 Interior Delete Parts Guide

BMW E36 shift boot delete cover – VAP technical fitment note

Interior delete parts are covers, blanks or replacement trim pieces used when original components are removed from the BMW E36 interior. They are common on lightweight, track-inspired, restoration or OEM+ builds where the original trim layout no longer matches the purpose of the car.

A good delete solution should not look like a random plate covering a hole. It should follow the original geometry, sit cleanly in the surrounding trim and make the modification look intentional.

Common BMW E36 interior delete areas

  • Radio / DIN slot
  • Center console switch or outlet blanks
  • Map light area
  • Rear reading lights
  • Coat hangers
  • Shift boot and short shifter opening
  • Gauge panel integration

Why delete parts matter

A stripped or modified E36 interior can quickly look unfinished when removed components leave open holes, exposed edges or improvised flat plates. This is especially visible in the center console, roof trim and rear interior area.

Small trim pieces influence the perceived quality of the entire build. Even if the car is lightweight or track-inspired, the interior can still feel deliberate and well executed.

Good vs bad delete solutions

A strong delete part should:

  • Use platform-specific geometry instead of universal fitment
  • Follow the surrounding BMW E36 interior lines
  • Avoid visible gaps and uneven edges
  • Use a material suitable for vehicle cabin temperatures
  • Allow test fitting before final installation
  • Look like part of the build, not a temporary fix

A weak delete solution usually uses a generic flat plate, does not match the trim shape and makes the interior look unfinished.

Material choice

For final automotive interior use, VAP generally recommends heat-resistant FDM materials such as ASA, ASA-CF or PETG depending on the part, printer and use case. PLA can be useful for quick test prints, but it is generally not recommended for hot car interiors.

VAP approach

VAP supplies BMW E36 delete and integration parts as digital 3D print files in prepared 3MF and matching STL formats for FDM printing. The current product range focuses on small, non-safety-critical interior details where clean fitment and visual consistency matter.

FAQ

Are E36 delete parts only cosmetic?

Most interior delete parts are visual and integration-focused. They help removed components look intentional and can support lightweight or simplified interiors.

Do VAP digital files include physical parts?

No. Products marked as digital files are downloads supplied in 3MF and STL formats unless the product page explicitly says otherwise.

Should I test fit before final use?

Yes. Vehicle age, trim condition, printer calibration and material choice can affect final fitment.
